Facilities Manager

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent

Classification: Exempt / Professional

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 12-Month (Full-Year)

Compensation: Standard District Benefit Package

Job Goal

To provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the district's operational departments. The Director of Facilities ensures that all district facilities, grounds, and infrastructure are maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and cleanliness to support the educational mission of Newcastle Public Schools.

Qualifications & Skills

Leadership Excellence: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and mentor diverse teams across multiple departments over a long-term period.

Organizational Mastery: Exceptional organizational and project management skills; must be able to coordinate complex schedules, budgets, and multi-phase projects simultaneously.

Professional Experience: Extensive experience in facilities management, maintenance, and large-scale construction oversight.

Communication & Conflict Resolution: High-level interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate public relations and resolve conflicts with a solutions-oriented approach.

Technical Proficiency: Ability to function effectively in a technology-centric environment, utilizing maintenance management systems and digital administrative tools.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

Departmental Oversight: Directly supervise and evaluate the Custodial and Maintenance Departments, ensuring high performance, accountability, and streamlined operations.

Facilities Management: Provide comprehensive oversight of all district facilities, including warehousing, grounds, repairs, and long-term capital improvement/bond projects.

Strategic Planning: Conduct regular, documented assessments of all district facilities to prioritize repairs and develop a proactive preventative maintenance schedule.

Fiscal Accountability: Manage departmental budgets and ensure strict adherence to district accounting practices regarding purchases, bidding, and contract management.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all facilities and operational practices meet local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, ADA, Fire Code).

Project Leadership: Act as the primary liaison for construction projects, working with architects, contractors, and district stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Environment: Work is performed in both office settings and active construction/maintenance sites.

Physical Demands: Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate various terrains of district facilities; ability to lift or move equipment as necessary for inspection purposes.

Availability: Must be able to respond to district emergencies outside of standard business hours if required.
