Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 6-7)

Under the supervision of the School Principal, the Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for fostering student growth in both academic and interpersonal skills by delivering district-approved science curriculum. This includes implementing hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that align with state standards and the Oklahoma A+ (OKA+) Schools Model, which emphasizes arts integration, collaboration, and multiple learning pathways. The teacher will create a dynamic and engaging classroom environment that promotes scientific exploration, critical thinking, and problem-solving while providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and administration.

Essential Responsibilities:

-Develop and implement a middle school science curriculum that aligns with district goals, state standards, and the OKA+ Schools Model.
-Create an interactive and inquiry-based classroom environment that encourages curiosity, experimentation, and hands-on learning.
-Integrate interdisciplinary connections and arts-based strategies to enhance student engagement and comprehension of scientific concepts.
-Design and deliver engaging, student-centered lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
-Utilize various assessment methods, including formative and summative evaluations, to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
-Foster a collaborative and respectful classroom culture that promotes scientific discourse, problem-solving, and teamwork.
-Encourage students to develop strong observational, analytical, and experimental skills through hands-on lab activities, STEM projects, and real-world applications.
-Promote responsible citizenship, environmental awareness, and ethical scientific practices in alignment with educational regulations and school policies.
-Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and assessments, ensuring compliance with district policies and state requirements.
-Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student achievement and encourage family involvement in education.
-Establish and maintain high expectations for student behavior to foster a productive and respectful learning environment.
-Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, grade-level colleagues, and school staff to enhance curriculum effectiveness and student success.
-Select and manage instructional materials, lab equipment, and technology to support inquiry-based learning.
-Supervise students in both classroom and non-classroom settings, including field trips, science fairs, and extracurricular activities.
-Administer standardized assessments in accordance with district and state testing programs.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or district administration.

Preferred Qualifications -Strong knowledge of scientific concepts, inquiry-based instruction, and hands-on learning methodologies.
-Ability to integrate arts-based learning and interdisciplinary approaches as part of the OKA+ Schools Model.
-Proficiency in using technology and digital tools to enhance science instruction and student engagement.
-Ability to analyze student data and implement targeted instructional strategies.
-Excellent classroom management, organization, and communication skills.
-Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective teaching practices.
-Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

-Work is performed in a standard classroom and laboratory setting.
-Requires movement throughout the school and occasional travel for professional development or school-related activities.
-May require handling lab materials, conducting experiments, and managing outdoor learning experiences.
